Overview

Quiet Move is an offline-first iPhone app for importing, analyzing, and training from chess games. Quiet Move does not require an account and does not use advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics in the app.

Data stored on your device

Quiet Move stores imported chess games, PGN and FEN content, source links, analysis results, generated puzzles, training attempts, saved public provider usernames, own-game selections, derived Your Chess observations, legacy local entitlement records, and app settings locally on your iPhone.

The Share Extension temporarily places confirmed import content in Quiet Move’s private App Group container so the main app can validate and import it. This import content is not sent to a Quiet Move analysis server.

Deleting Quiet Move removes its local app data and shared import inbox, subject to normal iOS backup and restoration behavior controlled by Apple and the user. Quiet Move has no remote account or server-side copy of your imported reviews to delete.

On-device analysis

Quiet Move runs chess analysis locally with the bundled Arasan 26.0 engine and its NNUE network. Arasan is the open-source chess engine by Jon Dart. Imported positions and engine results are not sent to a Quiet Move analysis service. After a game is imported, its review and practice features work without a network connection.

Provider requests you initiate

To import public games, Quiet Move makes these requests after you choose the source:

• A Chess.com or Lichess username import sends the public username to that provider’s documented read-only public API to request completed public game data.
• Confirming an exact public Lichess game link authorizes Quiet Move to request that public game when the app next becomes active. A saved request may be retried after a temporary network or server failure.
• Opening an original-game or play-again link leaves Quiet Move and opens the provider website through iOS.

Quiet Move does not receive provider credentials, log in to a provider account, scrape game pages, poll usernames, or perform background imports. Bare Chess.com game links are not fetched because Chess.com does not document an exact-game-by-ID public endpoint for this flow.

These requests go directly from your device to the selected provider. Provider processing is governed by that provider’s privacy policy and terms. Quiet Move’s developer does not receive or retain the request or response.

Connected play

A limited browser Challenge pilot lets one host invite a guest with a private link. The person holding that link can play the guest side; player names do not verify identity. The host’s app keeps its access token in this device’s Keychain, and the guest browser may remember its token in local storage so a room can be reopened on that device.

During the pilot, an isolated Cloudflare D1 database temporarily stores both entered names, moves, the result, and hashes of the access tokens. A waiting invitation expires after 24 hours. An active room expires seven days after its latest saved action; a finished room expires seven days after the ending. A daily cleanup deletes expired records, though a delayed or failed cleanup may take longer. Cloudflare database recovery history may retain deleted state for up to seven further days. Cloudflare may also process request information to deliver and protect the service.

The Challenge page does not load this website’s analytics beacon. The finished game is saved to Review on the host’s device when that app receives its ending. If the host does not reconnect before the room expires, that room cannot be used to import the game. Optional Game Center play remains unavailable.

This website

This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate page views, visits, referring websites, and page performance. It does not use analytics cookies or identify individual visitors. We do not collect custom click events. This website analytics is separate from the Quiet Move app, which does not use third-party analytics.

You can read more about Cloudflare Web Analytics and Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Like any hosted website, infrastructure providers may process basic request information as needed to deliver pages, prevent abuse, and maintain security. The support link opens your email client; the site does not operate a contact-form database.

Children

Quiet Move does not knowingly solicit personal information from children. The app does not require a Quiet Move account or public profile for private game review. If you email support, you choose what information to send.

Changes to this policy

If Quiet Move’s data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy answers will be updated before the changed version is distributed. The effective date at the top will also be revised.
